In the second year of one of the biggest Gi grappling events on the calendar, The IBJJF Crown has been filled with plenty of action and excitement.

The IBJJF is back with their premier invitation event The Crown, a tournament that brings together champions, veterans, and up-and-comers to battle it out for supremacy at the end of the IBJJF gi season. With expanded brackets and lots of prize money on the line, this year's event is looking to be bigger and better than last year's inaugural edition. Who has the edge leading into Sunday's action? Let's take a look at every division by favorites, contenders, and darkhorses.

The IBJJF has announced the full eight-person field for the 2024 featherweight bracket at The Crown, with multiple world champions and medalists ready to face off for supremacy.

Just about two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of competing in one of the biggest BJJ tournaments of my life – the 2024 ADCC World Championships.

ADCC is where we saw the heel hook really evolve into the dominant submission hold we see today and where leg locking truly became an art. Now, every competitor needs to have serious skill in recognizing and defending leg locks or they risk losing (and potentially losing very quickly).

The 2024 ADCC field at -66kg is complete, with the additions of stars like Gabriel Sousa, Diego Pato, and Josh Cisneros to round out the field of 16. Those 3 are all returning top-4 place winners from the prior ADCC and will likely be seeded highly coming into the tournament. Currently, Pato sits at the #1 spot in our 145lb no-gi rankings, and Gabriel Sousa is fifth.

Two of the top pound-for-pound grapplers on Earth will face off when Dante Leon defends his 155lb championship against 145lb champion Diego "Pato" Oliveira on Feb. 9 at WNO 22 in Costa Mesa, CA. This will mark Dante's first title defense and Pato will be aiming to become a WNO two-division champion with the victory.

With only a few days until the action kicks off, interest is reaching a fever pitch in the card on Tezos WNO 21: Marinho vs Lovato. While there have been some changes to the card, there are still three incredible title fights including the first featherweight defense of Diogo "Baby Shark" Reis. The ADCC & WNO Champion will be facing off with a familiar foe when he takes on Diego "Pato" Oliveira in fifteen minute super fight action.

A king, A hulk, a baby shark and a teenage phenomenon are all headed to WNO 21 in November 2023.

Diogo 'Baby Shark' Reis is coming back to Tezos WNO to defend his 145lb championship against rival Diego 'Pato' Oliveira on Tezos WNO 21: Marinho vs Lovato Jr. These two top athletes have met in high profile matches in gi and no-gi, through different rulesets and promotions, and now will look to settle the score on the WNO mats in Austin, TX this Nov. 30.

Two-time world champion Diego "Pato" Oliveira has been invited to compete in the IBJJF's premiere event, The Crown coming to Long Beach, CA and streaming live on FloGrappling on Nov. 19.

The IBJJF calendar continues to roll on and this weekend the action will kick off in Phoenix, AZ. World-class athletes will be competing, staying sharp and getting competitive matches against tough opposition. The tournament isn't particularly big, but its proximity to Brazilian jiu-jitsu hotbeds like southern California and Austin, Texas makes it an ideal location for elite athletes to travel for a smaller event.
