IBJJF Announces The Featherweight Field For The Crown

The IBJJF has announced the full eight-person field for the 2024 featherweight bracket at The Crown, with multiple world champions and medalists ready to face off for supremacy.

The eight men involved will be;

  • #1 at LFW Diego Pato, 3-Time IBJJF World Champion
    • Pato is one of the best gi athletes in the world and a 3-time World Champion for the IBJJF. He will be moving up from light-feather for this bracket but he's no stranger to bumping up - for example when he entered the absolute at Pans this year. Pato is the top-ranked light-featherweight and #2 pound-for-pound.
  • #2 Kennedy Maciel
    • Kennedy Maciel was on an all-time run in 2024 in the gi, navigating the first three majors and winning gold against tough opposition before falling short of the podium at Worlds. Now, the #2 ranked featherweight will have his shot at redemption to finish off the year in the Crown bracket.
  • Jamil Hill-Taylor, IBJJF World Champion
    • Jamil is a former World Champion who enters this bracket with a lot of question marks around him, having missed many of the recent major competitions. Still, Jamil is a technical wizard who is capable of giving anyone in the world a tough match.
  • #3 Ademir Barreto
    • Ademir had a breakout year at featherweight, making the World finals and beating the 2023 champion Nagai at Euros. He's really rounding into form at black belt and has made himself into a threat to win any bracket.
  • Osvaldo "Queixinho" Moizinho
    • Queixinho is jumping back in with the modern generation and he brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the mats against his younger counterparts. Moizinho is a multiple-time IBJJF world medalist who is fresh off of another Master's world title.
  • #9 Marco Mendes
    • Marco is one of DreamArt's most exciting young athletes, both in his potential and his style. He fights forward and fights often, gaining a lot of experience in his young black belt career. In his first season he established himself as a top-ten athlete and now looks to turn The Crown into his breakout event.
  • Eduardo Granzotto
    • Eduardo is another young black belt who can use The Crown to announce himself to the larger public. In his debut season at black belt he had some nice moments but wasn't able to get onto the podium at Worlds - but now he will get his shot at The Crown.
  • Joao Mendes
    • Joao Bisnaga Mendes is a really tough black belt competitor for Atos who has fought all the top-names tough. He has won 8 of his lsat 9 matches and brings a lot of momentum into the event as he aims to knock off some bigger names.
