The 2024 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds begin this week, with black belts taking the mats Friday & Saturday. On day one, it will be all the absolute up until the finals, the women's divisions up until the finals, and the men's up until the semifinals. Those matches will all then go down the next day on Saturday. Everything will be going down exclusively on FloGrappling.

The IBJJF is back with their premier invitation event The Crown, a tournament that brings together champions, veterans, and up-and-comers to battle it out for supremacy at the end of the IBJJF gi season. With expanded brackets and lots of prize money on the line, this year's event is looking to be bigger and better than last year's inaugural edition. Who has the edge leading into Sunday's action? Let's take a look at every division by favorites, contenders, and darkhorses.

The IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championships are coming up quick, as next weekend some of the toughest grapplers in the game will descend on Fort Worth, TX for their shot at one of the IBJJF's most prestigious no-gi titles.

After a big weekend of no-gi action, we wanted to give an explainer as to why we made some of the decisions we did in our Official FloGrappling No-Gi Rankings. This week was really notable for the introduction of two new weight divisions in the rankings, men's 125lbs and women's 105lbs.

Nick Rodriguez was able to take down and submit Michael Pixley in main event action at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 8. Rodriguez became more effective as the match wore on, before eventually putting Pixley down with a shot off a restart and used his signature body lock passing to move to mount and control while hunting for the finish. Overtime saw much of the same from Rodriguez, moving to mount before taking the back and securing the rear naked choke.

Australia is one of grappling's growing hotbeds and over the last ten years or so has really emerged, especially in no-gi and ADCC-style competitions. That's in part because of the way ADCC does their Trials, with Oceanic and Asian competitors getting their own regional competition without the North or South Americans - meaning that Australians get a more direct path to qualifying for Worlds.

ADCC is not a jiu-jitsu tournament - it is a grappling tournament that more heavily mixes in a bias for wrestling and competing on the feet. Where past years may have been full of collar-tie push/pull marathons, those grapplers have largely been lapped by a more aggressive and technical generation of stars who fight for the takedown in a more exciting way.

ADCC is where we saw the heel hook really evolve into the dominant submission hold we see today and where leg locking truly became an art. Now, every competitor needs to have serious skill in recognizing and defending leg locks or they risk losing (and potentially losing very quickly).

The biggest jiu-jitsu show in Brazilian is returning in a few weeks as BJJ Stars has announced the full card for BJJ Stars 13: Vikings Edition. BJJ Stars is the biggest super fight organization currently operating in Brazil and their thirteenth edition continues their strong tradition of packed cards. This 'Vikings'-themed night will feature IBJJF & ADCC World Champions and be headlined by Mica Galvao facing ADCC Champion & UFC veteran Davi Ramos in no-gi.

The third WNO event of the year, which is on June 20 at 8 p.m. EST in Austin, Texas, at the Austin Palmer Event Center, not only gives the 12 ADCC Trials Champions on the card a chance for one last match before ADCC Worlds, it allows them to face opponents who they may see in August.

Who's Number One is set to return to the Palmer Event Center in Austin, TX for WNO 24 on June 20. This is one of the most stacked events in WNO history, with three title fights and seven matches between top-10 opponents. In total, 12 different ADCC Trials champions will be on the card! It is headlined by the return of Gordon Ryan from a medical sabbatical, as he defends his heavyweight belt against Australian phenom Josh Saunders.

The 2024 IBJJF World Championships are kicking off, and while most attention is going to the black belts on Saturday & Sunday, there will be a ton of amazing action in the colored belt divisions. Some of the fullest divisions will be the blue belts, with tons of young athletes trying to set themselves apart from the rest early in their jiu-jitsu careers.

The Crown is set to be a new mega event in the gi season, where the IBJJF invites the best of the best to compete for a big cash prize. With plans to expand in future years, this inaugural event will feature only 24 athletes who will be a part of this historical tournament.
