As a teenager, Galvao submitted black belts in both gi and no-gi tournaments. He is a 2021 Abu Dhabi World Pro champion in the 77kg black belt division. His father Melqui Galvao runs Fight Sports Manaus.

He is the founder and team leader of Fight Sports, headquartered in Miami, FL and with locations around the world. Abreu received his black belt from Francisco "Toco" Albuquerque. An ultra-heavyweight competitor, "Cyborg" is known for his success in no-gi jiu-jitsu and grappling competition and invented the position known as the "tornado guard". Abreu was voted the 2020 Male Grappler of the Year in the FloGrappling Awards.
