He's got all the hallmarks of a future champion black belt and continues to rack up impressive performances as a colored belt. At 2025 Pans, he dominated the field with all submissions in the lightweight division at brown belt. Watch out for Cardona, he will soon be one of the sharks in the waters of the black belt brackets and if days like this are any indication he might be a serious contender already.

Atos standout super heavyweight Nico Maglicic locked up double gold in the brown belt divisions on the second day of the 2023 IBJJF Pan Championships, defeating four of his six opponents via submission and racking up points along the way. That marks Maglicic’s second and third Pans gold as a brown belt, he took absolute gold at the tournament in 2022 after earning silver in the category.

Art Of Jiu-Jitsu has one of the strongest competition teams in gi jiu-jitsu, and this year’s team at Pans is one of their largest yet. While AOJ has been deep for years at the colored belt ranks, its black belt squad is now formidable across several weight categories. AOJ's black belt Pans squad features homegrown rookie talent, established veterans in the AOJ backbone, and a few new recruits hopeful to contribute to the Costa Mesa team's success.

The 2023 Pan Championships are shaping up to be a thrilling showcase of talent, with some of the most skilled competitors from around the globe coming together to battle it out in the black belt division. It’s the deepest Pans in history, with some the largest divisions we’ve ever seen at Pans. Among the light-featherweight contenders are three of the best in the world, including an IBJJF World Champion, looking to stave off hungry challengers.

The second major IBJJF tournament of the year goes down this week, with the 2023 IBJJF Pan Championship taking place in Kissimmee, Florida. The action kicks off on Wednesday, March 22nd and black belt finals will wrap it up on the evening of Sunday, March 26th. All of the matches will be available on FloGrappling.
