Dorian Olivarez is a one-of-one unique figure in grappling today. No one is combining wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and sheer willpower into a more effective offensive force than he is. When you consider that he's still only in high school and already winning at the highest levels, there's no ceiling on what Dorian Olivarez can accomplish in the sport of grappling (and perhaps beyond). That was all on full display here at the 2024 IBJJF No-Gi World Championships where he won lightweight gold in a stunningly dominant performance.

ADCC is not a jiu-jitsu tournament - it is a grappling tournament that more heavily mixes in a bias for wrestling and competing on the feet. Where past years may have been full of collar-tie push/pull marathons, those grapplers have largely been lapped by a more aggressive and technical generation of stars who fight for the takedown in a more exciting way.

ADCC East Coast Trials Champion Dorian Olivarez was able to win a junior folkstyle national championship over the weekend, defeating #1 Pierson Manville 2-1 in a close match to cap off a dark horse run to first place. The win came in the U20 144lb bracket, which featured multiple nationally-ranked high school wrestlers. Dorian, still only high school age, will be competing in the ADCC World Championships later this year in the -66kg division.
