Firing back at the haters, Dillon Danis explains what happened to take him out of the 2019 ADCC this weekend in Anaheim, CA.
Training at Unity Jiu-Jitsu just days out from the prestigious no-gi tournament, the grappling-MMA crossover star suffered a freak accident that was severe enough to force him to withdraw from what would have been his third ADCC World Championship appearance.
Danis exclusively revealed to FloGrappling the details behind the injury that crushed his ADCC dream:
“On a takedown scramble I went in, I fell to the ground and couldn’t stand up. It’s the craziest thing I ever felt in my life — it’s like someone shot me in my back. If I tried to stand I would collapse.”
The 2-0 MMA fighter is no stranger to criticism online. Danis is a divisive figure who courts controversy; the reaction to his withdrawal was gleefully spiteful.
“They’re all saying I was never going to compete. I’m human too, I get hurt. I literally could not walk.”
“The day I pulled out I cried the whole day. That title is my dream.”
