Roberto 'Cyborg' Abreu: Masters Worlds Road To Gold
Few athletes at Masters World have the pedigree of Roberto 'Cyborg' Abreu.
It's August 2018, and Roberto 'Cyborg' Abreu is running out of medals to win.
The man holds nearly every title available, in the gi and without, and he has been successful at the highest level of competition for the better part of 15 years. Today, Abreu added one more gold medal to his resume and became the IBJJF 2018 World Masters Ultra-heavyweight Champion (Masters 2).
Cyborg had five tough matches on his way to the top of the podium, including an opening bout with Adam Wheeler: a Team USA athelte at the 2008 Olympics who earned a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling. Cyborg told us that he wanted to try to take down the elite stand-up grappler, but instead, he eventually opted to pull guard and finish the match with a triangle. The rest of Cyborg's title run saw him hit is patented tornado takedown more than once, multiple submission wins, and an overall flawless performance. Hit the links below to see Cyborg's road to gold.
