If fans are confused why the No.1-ranked No-Gi grappler in the world would get involed in a boxing match, well, it's because Ryan and Danis were once rivals.
Danis is a two-time ADCC veteran and competed at the ADCC World Championships in 2015 and 2017. He is a former IBJJF World and Pan champion. He became a black belt in 2015. He made his MMA debut in 2018, fighting for Bellator and has close ties to UFC star Conor McGregor.
Why Did Logan Paul Bring Gordon Ryan To His Boxing Weigh-in?
According to some outlets there is a fear that the in-experienced-in-boxing Danis may find himself reverting back to his BJJ past during his match with Paul.
Paul called Danis a "dirty fighter" at the weigh-in and said he brought Danis' "kryptonite" with him. He then said he got Gordon Ryan to protect him in case "he tries any jiu-jitsu."
😳 @LoganPaul and @DillonDanis are HEATED!!!

Gordon Ryan Vs. Dillon Danis
Ryan and Danis grappled at the 2017 ADCC World Championship. The match was close and Ryan didn't submit Danis. On the MMA Hour show, Ryan said of Danis:
“If you actually look at the statistics and I’ve been dying to actually say this on a big podcast … Dillon Danis has a record in jiu-jitsu since black belt of 18-16. Like he’s not nearly as good at jiu-jitsu as people think he is. Everyone just references the match with me like, yeah, that was about five years ago, I wasn’t good either. But Dillon since black belt is 18-60 so it’s not a great record."
Ryan went on to question Danis' bio page at Bellator where he calls himself a "4x Jiu-Jitsu World Champion."
