Roberto Gordo | Old School: Legends of Jiu-Jitsu
In Old School: Legends of Jiu-Jitsu we look back at the most influential names of yesteryear, those who tore it up on the competition scene and had the biggest influence on the sport as we know it.
Featured in this episode is a true innovator. He doesn't like to be called the creator of the half guard, but Roberto 'Gordo" Correa had such a monumental impact on the way half guard was played in jiu-jitsu that he can be classified as a true visionary. He developed an attacking system from what was traditionally a defensive position, paving the way for generations to follow and expand upon the movement he had started.
Gordo's history in the sport encompasses that of both competitor and coach. He was in his prime in the mid-90s, an era where he became World, Pan and Brazilian National champ. He also developed a reputation as a sought-after coach with the ability to train competitors for gi, no-gi and MMA.
