"Now is the perfect time to study footage, it's something I highly recommend and it's something I'm doing right now myself"

Now more than ever, competitors are looking for ways to progress off the mat. We brought in ADCC Champions, JT Torres and Andre Galvo, to talk about their process for studying footage and how to keep sharp during COVID-19.

JT Torres: How To Study Film

There are two reasons why JT studies film, to acquire new techniques and to study opponents. When he studies for technique acquisition, he prefers to watch match footage repetitively, so he can examine how the move is being used in practical application. He Often reviews the footage hundreds of times before searching for a tutorial to understand the finer details. These days every major athlete has a technique dvd on their best systems, adopting world-class techniques have never been easier.

"What I recommend is looking for someone who you want to base your game off of, study their competition footage and then look for an instructional."

JT is also big on studying his opponents before competition. He takes note of what they are most likely to attack so he can build a counter-strategy. Mapping this out gives JT a gameplan for practice. By constantly practicing in these specific areas, JT feels prepared going into competition and less threatened by his opponent's strengths.

Andre Galvao: Who Does The Goat Study?

There are so many competitors to watch, how do you choose which ones to study? Mimicking the study habits of the jiu-jitsu elite is never a bad idea. Andre Galvao is also a big fan of studying and broke down his time three inspirations.
