A Nasty, Nasty Wristlock Highlight
I've heard wristlocks referred to as heel hooks of the upper body. They're awful to get caught in, but they make you feel supremely powerful when you land one.
There are few things more satisfying than seeing somebody's face screw up in a mixture of pain, shock and anger as you crank their wrist the way it's not meant to go.
The beautiful thing about wristlocks is they can be hit from all kind of positions– from standing, from on top, or from guard. They're a great way of finishing off stubborn opponents who refuse to tap to other attacks, especially triangles.
There are a few key points to submitting somebody with a wristlock:
- You've got to make sure the arm is immobilized, preferably by wedging their elbow where it can't move around and let them relieve the pressure.
- If you're going for the traditional gooseneck style wristlock, then a solid grip over the knuckles is key, as is a twist in the direction of the pinky finger as you crank.
