Brian Cushing Reveals What Surprised Him Most About BJJ
Brian Cushing has been an athlete his entire life.
A star football player in his youth, Cushing would go on to become a household name while playing in the NFL. He led the Houston Texans the year they were ranked the #1 defense in the league, played in pro-bowls and was named team MVP in 2011.
Cushing played nine years in the NFL and has a laundry list of accolades and accomplishments, but what is the one thing he wished he started doing long before his football career took off? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I’ve watched jiu-jitsu for awhile from a far. My kids have been doing it for 5 and 4 years. One thing I didn’t know until I got on the mats is just how technical it is. It’s one of those sports I truly believe that the better guy wins 90% of the time. There’s not a lot of luck involved. It’s a lot of technique, practice, skill, that all translates on the mats.
