Gordon Ryan and Joao Gabriel put on an incredible match at the KASAI Super Series that went right down to the wire.

Though Ryan's heel hook entry was enough to put the sole point on the board, the Renzo Gracie / Danaher competitor did not leave the mat unscathed, and unfortunately suffered a knee injury of some kind during the match. Ryan goes on to detail how the match played out in his own words and how the injury was sustained.

"It was definitely interesting. I wrestling with him for a while and I felt like he was getting pretty tired… I knew he had a good counter to the knee pick with an uchi mata… one time he made the adjustment and management to throw me and we kinda landed off the stage, so after that I said 'yeah let’s just sit to guard.'"

"Midway into the match I went to enter into cross ashi-garami and as I was coming up my leg was bent; he sprawled his hip back and my knee went pop pop pop pop. From there I couldn’t do much on my right hip because the butterfly hook on the left leg was going to break in half."

"Props to him, it was definitely an interesting match, and like anyone I don’t submit I want to get the chance to face him again."

"The one heel hook I did enter popped him pretty good… so I popped my knee but also popped his.. so I guess we're even."
