Eddie Bravo: ’If You Don’t Know Leglocks, You’re Gonna Get Destroyed’

Eddie Bravo lays out his thoughts on leglocks in submission-only jiu-jitsu competitions and describes how they approach them in his 10th Planet style jiu-jitsu.

“I always thought that heel hooks were at *this* level, we thought they were all figured out.

“At 10th Planet we’ve always been leglock friendly, we never banned reaping or heel hooks, even for white belts.

“We’ve just never been super heavy on them because 10th Planet has always been about MMA jiu-jitsu.

“In MMA, heel hooks aren’t the safest submission to go for, but in the submission-only game, they’ve very important.

“After seeing what Eddie Cummings is doing, what Garry Tonon is doing, and what John Danaher has done with his system of leglocks, it’s clear that the leglock game is at a level where people didn’t even think it could get there.

“Eddie Cummings is just crushing people with leglocks, so is Garry Tonon. In 10th Planet we were never heavy on heel hooks – now, we’re heavy on heel hooks.

“In sub only, if you’re not up to speed with the leglock game you’re gonna get destroyed."
