Al Katheeri became the first ever Emerati champ. Andrew dropped to 85kg for his first title. A-Rod, Pessanha & Larissa are on championship streaks.
Zayed Al Katheeri made history on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, becoming the first UAE-born athlete to win gold in the black belt pro division at the Abu Dhabi World Pro.
Al Katheeri, who won the 56kg category division at the 14th Edition of World Pro, defeated the 13th edition champion, Nathannael Jackson in the final.
62kg champ Meyram Maquine also had a tremendous weekend, submitting three of his four opponents to capture gold.
Maquine was one of the several champions from Dream Art. Yatan Bueno, Anna Rodrigues and Isadora Cristina also took gold.
Rodrigues' title marks her second consecutive win at World Pro at 55 kg. She defeated Rose El Sharouni in the final.
In the lightest weight category, Brenda Larissa captured her third consecutive title. And Gabi Pessanha won her fourth in four editions in the 95kg division.
After several seasons as a top contented, Julia Alves claimed the 62kg throne, defeating Emily Fernandez in the final.
Fellipe Andrew had one of the most impressive outings of the tournament, defeating five opponents to claim his first-ever World Pro title.
Andrew, who has frequented the top weight divisions in his black belt tenure, competed at 85kg, where he knocked off the reigning champ Isaque Bahiense in one of the most exciting matches of the weekend.
