This year's edition of the World Championships represents the culmination of year a change – as this was the first season where the IBJJF integrated heel hooks into their ruleset.
Some of the veterans have managed to retain their position as dominant forces within the IBJJF, but there are also some no-gi specific upstarts making waves – the two forces are set to collide in the season-ending showdown this week.
