IBJJF Announces Dates & Location For 2021 World Championship
After cancelling the World Championships for the first time in 25 years, the IBJJF has finally announced the dates and location for the 2021 Worlds.
The IBJJF announced today that it will hold a gi world championship later this year.
The jiu-jitsu federation announced the dates and location via Instagram for the 25th edition of the IBJJF World Championship. Which will be held on December 9-12 in Anaheim, CA.
The IBJJF cancelled many of its events in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The organization held a belated edition of Pans in 2020, but cancelled last year's installment of the World Championships. That made 2020 the first year without a World Championship since the inaugural year of the event in 1996.
Federation-run tournaments are back in full-swing in the US, it appears, and are returning in Brazil as well. Along with the World Championships, the IBJJF has already announced two more major gi tournaments: 2021 Pans (Sept. 1-5) and 2021 Brasileiros (Sept 25.-Oct. 3). In addition, No-Gi Worlds is scheduled for Oct. 7-10 in Garland, TX.
Registration is not yet open for this event, but is expected to open soon on ibjjf.com.
According to the IBJJF's post, black belts will be required to hold 36 ranking points in order to qualify for the World Championships.
