Gilbert Burns To Take On Rafael Lovato Jr At WNO
Two the best jiu-jitsu fighters from the MMA world will meet on April 30th when Gilbert Burns takes on Rafael Lovato Jr at WNO!
FloGrappling Who's Number One (WNO) returns on Friday, April 30th for yet another monster event, with a stacked card of eight superfights headlined by Rafael Lovato Jr. vs Gilbert Burns.
All matches on this event will be 15 minutes in length and under WNO rules. As always, there will be a press conference the day before at 5:30 ET and the event kicks off Friday night at 8:00 ET, with the first two matches from the prelims being streamed free on the FloGrappling Youtube and Facebook pages.
Our main event for this one is a great one, with two of the most successful jiu-jitsu fighters to make the transition to MMA meeting in a grappling match. No.2-ranked UFC welterweight Gilbert "Durinho" Burns will throw down with former Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Lovato Jr. in a battle between two legends of jiu-jitsu.
Gilbert "Durinho" Burns
Gilbert Burns fought for the UFC welterweight title as recently as February 13th, and going into that fight was on a five fight win streak including wins over Damian Maia and Tyron Woodley. Gilbert is 19-4 overall in his career, with 16 of those fights coming in the UFC.
Before his MMA career, Gilbert was a no-gi world champion in 2010 and won a world title in the gi in 2011. Gilbert also has a bronze medal from ADCC 2015. He has defeated a very impressive list of grapplers in his career, including wins over legends like Lucas Lepri, Leandro Lo and JT Torres.
You may remember that Durinho was scheduled to be on our October event against Dante Leon. He had to pull out of that match to focus on his UFC career though, and we are really looking forward to this multi sport legend finally making his WNO debut.
Rafael Lovato Jr.
Rafael Lovato Jr also put in a great MMA career after making the switch, going 10-0 and retiring from the sport undefeated. In his last fight, he defeated Gegard Mousasi and won the Bellator middleweight championship.
Lovato has one of the best grappling resumes out there, with a ton of accomplishments in both gi and no-gi competition. Lovato has been extremely successful in IBJJF gi competition, and in 2007 became the first athlete ever to achieve the "grand slam", winning Worlds, Pans, Euros and the Brasileiro in the same season. Rafael is also incredibly accomplished in no-gi, he is a No-Gi Worlds champion and an ADCC silver medalist.
This will be the first meeting between Durinho and Lovato, make sure you tune in on April 30th to check it out!
