JT Torres has won back-to-back ADCC titles, with near-flawless performances in both tournaments.
He's considered one of the best technicians in the game and has a great mind for jiu-jitsu strategy, so naturally we had to get some insight from him on his ADCC matches.
JT analyzed several matches for us, totaling an hour of discussion. Here are a few takeaways from the episode.
On Staying Strong Mentally vs Vagner Rocha
"I stay focused — it all goes back to my training. I train so hard and I put myself in such uncomfortable positions when I train, when someone is trying to jab my throat and talk, it doesn't bother me. I'm too focused at that point."
On This Takedown vs Celsinho
"I remember watching Marcelo Garcia hit this arm drag a lot, but Marcelo would hit his hip, but what I started doing was combining his arm drag with a double leg."
On Dealing With Garry Tonon's Unpredictability
"I know his style — his style is a dangerous style, so you gotta be super careful with him. So I told myself, if I'm gonna wrestle Garry, if I can get his leg up high, it would be an easy way to put him down and a safe way. I don't want to shoot in too deep and have him go for a guillotine or a kimura trap that he's pretty good at."
