The 2020 IBJJF Pan, one of the biggest jiu-jitsu events on the IBJJF calendar, has been canceled due to preventative measures being taken against COVID-19.
The IBJJF released a statement on their website at around 5:00 PM Eastern Time on March 11, advising that the host venue had canceled all events of over 100 participants. The IBJJF Pan is a four-day tournament that regularly draws over 2000 competitors each year.
The IBJJF statement appeared as follows:
In an effort to prevent further spreading of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), The University of California, Irvine has canceled all events with more than 100 participants. Unfortunately, because of this, we are unable to hold the 2020 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship as currently scheduled. We will be refunding every registered athlete while we continue to work with UCI officials on the possibility of holding the event at a later date. Please stay tuned for further updates.
All registered athletes will be automatically refunded.
