Tim Spriggs Outworks Erberth To Claim The F2W Title

A battle of wills unfolded in the main event of F2W 130 that featured none other than jiu-jitsu’s most notorious competitor Erberth Santos versus the formidable Tim Spriggs in a bout that would determine the F2W  Heavyweight Champion.

Outside of a performance at Fight 2 Win 111 back in May where he picked up the heavyweight title by defeating Gutemberg Pereira, Erberth has been largely absent from the competition scene this year, and there were questions about what kind of shape we'd see the Brazilian in and how he would perform against the breakneck pace the Spriggs sets.

Questions that were especially relevant given that Tim Spriggs is probably in the best shape of his life after a grueling ADCC camp and impressive performance at that tournament just one month prior to tonight.

Anticipation gave way to a clash of titans, and the match began with a heavy emphasis on the stand-up game.

Each competitor relentlessly looking for heavy snapdowns, various trips, and throws;  though Erberth had his moments, it can be said that Spriggs effectively controlled the pacing and overall exacted more control of the match — he was continually pushing around the mat and nearly threw him off more than once. Besides his aggression, the TLI competitor's volume of attacks was also a critical factor in the judge's eye, and he was able to bring home the decision victory after time had expired.

Spriggs' win earns him a shiny new belt as he becomes the F2W Heavyweight champion, but it also carries interesting implications heading into the Spyder Jiu-Jitsu Championships going down in Korea in three weeks — both Spriggs and Erberth are in the eight-man -100kg among other legendary competitors like Leandro Lo, Rodolfo Vieira, Nicholas Meregali, Kaynan Duarte, and more.

The win for Spriggs should provide an added boost of confidence going into that tournament, while Erberth will need to find another source of inspiration before arriving in Seoul.
