History has been made. Gabi Garcia has become the first woman to win four ADCC gold medals, and she did so with a submission in the final.
With wins in 2011, 2013, 2017, and now 2019, Garcia has entered the history books as the most winningest ADCC female competitor ever.
Victorious in the final vs Carina Santi
Garcia stormed to the to of the podium by winning three matches: a 2-0 win over European Trials winner Stephanie Egger in the opening round, a referees’ decision versus Ana Carolina Vieira in the semifinal, and a submission against Carina Santi in the final.
Gabi’s gold-medal-winning match was finished by way of a kimura. Santi bravely fought from bottom but Garcia overwhelmed her opponent with her trademark heavy top pressure before snatching an arm while in top half guard.
An emotional Garcia poured her heart out and said she is 100 percent coming back in 2020 for a fifth gold medal.
“It’s an unbelievable moment in my life. I’m the old generation; all these girls are the new generation and I still try my best. I think my mindset is more strong than my body.”
