Good Morning grappling guys and gals, it's Monday, and you're on FloGrappling, which means it's time to pour a cup of coffee and dive into the Grappling Bulletin!

This week's guide delves into the recent (and MASSIVE) ADCC roster changes, big results from the weekend's events, and what's coming next.

The Shifting Cast Of ADCC

Nothing short of 'turbulent' could be used to adequately describe the state of the ADCC 2019 World Championship competitors list.  In just as many days, three MAJOR names pulled out of the 66kg division: would-be returning champion Rubens 'Cobrinha' Charles, AJ Agazarm, and Mikey Musumeci.

Cobrinha revealed in a video (included below) that the decision to withdraw was ultimately to give his son, Kennedy Maciel, a chance to compete at the prestigious event.

I’ve been competing at ADCC for over 10 years; I was making plans to compete this year as well, but since Kennedy has this dream as well… Technically ADCC cannot invite him if I was still competing, so I decided to pull out at let him pursue his dream. - Cobrinha

The stunning revelation left three spots available, but ADCC wasted no time in getting them filled with the following game competitors: Richard Alarcon, Tye Ruotolo, and Kennedy Maciel.

The full list of confirmed competitors for the 2019 ADCC World Championships can be seen here.

Results Recap:

Certainly no shortage of events this weekend - we saw a stacked F2W card take over Philly and three IBJJF opens: Chicago, Seattle, and Victoria.

F2W 120: Edwin and Perret Shine at F2W

Edwin Najmi’s success continued this weekend in Pittsburg as he took the dominant win over TLI’s DJ Jackson.  The bout was chippy from the opening bell, but a scramble near the seven-minute mark saw Najmi claim a spot on Jackson’s back. He retained the position until time expired and was awarded the UD victory.

Both athletes are set to compete at 77kg at ADCC in September, so Najmi's win may hold some interesting repercussions on the organization of the bracket.

The key moment from Edwin and Dj's bout

Catherine Perret edged out a scrappy decision victory over the always-tough Tubby Alequin to retain the F2W Bantamweight no-gi title. (Watch the full event replay of F2W 120

The IBJJF held three International Opens over the weekend, including the Chicago Summer Open which has traditionally been one of the more intriguing events on the summer calendar, and this year did not disappoint. The standout result from the event should be listed as rookie black belt Guiterry Barbosa's superb double gold performance.

It's also worth noting that Jessica Buchman pulled down double gold in her first appearance as a brown belt, and we're looking forward to her tackling new challenges at faixa marrom.

In Seattle, Clark Gracie took home his first gold medal for gi competition in over a year and Samir Abdolkader bested Atos stand out Cleber Sousa at black belt medium-heavyweight division, and Pablo Montovani took home double gold after closing out with Lucas Hulk Barbosa.

Quote of the Day

"The medal is cool, but is it what you are competing for? …. Now I don’t see the result as the motivation to be fighting. When I’m competing, in literature terms, the conflict would be 'man vs himself', not 'man vs man'. The goal is to push yourself past limits that you never knew that you could!" - Mikey Musumeci
