There's no question the absolute division holds a special place in the heart of jiu-jitsu fans. Technique over strength, a battle of wills, and 100% pure scrap - these matches never fail to entertain.
One only gains access to compete in the absolute if they hit the podium in their weight class earlier in the day, meaning that these athletes had already fought upwards of four to five times through the grueling.
Such is the case of Iasmim Casser of Atos and Rui Alves from Alliance. Casser fought three times to earn gold int he women's heavyweight division; Alves medium-heavy campaign ended with five hard matches and a silver medal for his efforts. After a few hours of rest, they were back to the grind in the absolute.
