Hot Off Biggest Win Of Career Aaron "Tex" Johnson Says He's Going To Rehab

Just 24 hours after tapping out Felipe Pena and earning the biggest win of his career, Aaron "Tex" Johnson posted he will be taking a break from jiu-jitsu and is checking into rehab.

In a post on Instagram the heavyweight grappler didn't elaborate on the reasons why, simply stating that he needed to get his "mind better".

"I’m leaving New York for a month and will be checking into rehab in New Mexico. I will be spending time with my wife and getting my mind better for a return to competition.

Thank you everyone for all the amazing support. I will miss everyone very much."

The heel hook that shocked the world

Johnson scored an upset win over the ADCC absolute champ Pena with an inside heel hook in the final round of the KASAI Pro 5 205lb tournament. He would go on to place second, losing to overall winner Kaynan Duarte in the final via points.

"Tex" became one of only four men to have ever submitted Felipe Pena but is the first non-Brazilian and the first in no-gi. Pena– 2017 ADCC absolute champion and a two-time ADCC silver medalist– had only lost in gi matches to Marcus Buchecha (twice, 2014 and 2016), Nicholas Meregali (2018), and Johnson's coach Murilo Santana (2013).
