BJJ World champion Paulo Miyao used a recent interview in South Korea to reveal he intends to enter the world of mixed martial arts.
Miyao flexed his developing language skills to conduct a pre-event interview for Spyder Invitational BJJ Championship, which you can see above, entirely in English. The question about MMA was asked at 1.18.
Do you have any interest in MMA? And if you do, do you have any intention to try it?
"Yeah but not now, I think maybe in five or six years."
27-year-old Miyao trains out of Unity Jiu-Jitsu in New York with Murilo Santana but represents PSLPB Cicero Costha, the team in Sao Paulo where he earned his black belt.
Dillon Danis– the jiu-jitsu black belt, Bellator MMA fighter and friend of UFC champion Conor McGregor– has also trained at Unity Jiu-Jitsu since moving there from Marcelo Garcia’s team in early 2017. Danis and Miyao can be seen rolling together in the clip below.
We’ve never heard of Miyao having trained MMA before but there was a photo of him rolling with McGregor, who Danis invited to train in a closed-door session with Miyao.
Miyao most commonly competes in jiu-jitsu and grappling events at around 140-145lb.
