Michael Musumeci entered the history books Sunday by becoming the only American male to win two gold medals at the IBJJF World Championships—and in consecutive years.

Musumeci, a law student born in New Jersey, raised in Florida, and now residing in Las Vegas, beat Ary Farias of Atos in the light-featherweight final 4-0 thanks to a back take.

“This is a very big day for jiu-jitsu," Musumeci said. "I’m very happy for everything, very grateful for the people in my life, all the positive energy. Every day I trained so hard. I’m so thankful for everyone. I love you all.”
