The roosterweight king easily submitted Rodnei Barbosa with an armbar in the final to be crowned 2018 champion, adding another title to his extensive resume. The 31-year-old Brazilian has gradually been making a transition to MMA and is currently 2-0 in the cage.
Malfacine leaves the sport as the most winningest small man in history. He was known for his dominance at the lighter wights and had a +60% finishing rate. He had a famous ongoing rivalry with Caio Terra, who twice prevented him from winning World gold (2008 and 2013). Aside from those two years, Malfacine won a record 10 Worlds title between 2007 and 2018.
The Alliance team member saw out the 2018 Worlds with a 100% finishing rate, submitting all four of his opponents on the way to gold.
