The training is absurdly intense – specifically, douse yourself in the shower while wearing your gi and then return to the mats for more – intense.
Led by Murilo Santana, Unity Jiu-Jitsu is a New York City-based academy that is home to Paulo and Joao Miyao, Felipe Cesar, Manuel Ribamar, Devhonte Johnson, and a whole army of killer purple belts.

Here's a full review of what a Unity competition training session consists of leading up to the IBJJF World Championships later this month.
The Beginning: Drill To Kill
The training at Unity is among the toughest we've seen—the academy is the width of a small subway platform, forcing athletes to keep their games tight, yet the pace remains brutal and unrelenting. The temperature is stifling and our cameras had a hard time functioning in the sweaty close quarters.
The training began with 20 minutes of drilling. Athletes chose whatever technique they wanted to work and alternated with the partner in one-minute intervals.
After Drilling: Porrada
We had to leave after watching 10 six-minute rounds, but we were told that Murilo Santana ran over 15 rounds. What we did see was an all-out war: the Miyao brothers were putting young purple belt killers such as Thalison Soares and Jonas Andrade through the paces; Santana was working with rising star Junny Ocasio; and Tex Johnson, Manuel Ribamar, and others were generally doing their best to tear each other's limbs off.
