Renowned leglock machine Eddie Cummings won the lightweight superfight against Renato Canuto at KASAI Pro 2 tonight.

The Renzo Gracie team member attacked non-stop with his patented leg lock series but could not find a secure hold on the slippery Brazilian under the dying seconds of the match, where a close outside heel hook had Canuto spinning out of danger. 

Cummings spent the entire match on bottom while Canuto probed his butterfly guard from the outside. The title holder’s length periods of inactivity on his feet earned him a penalty for stalling, which was the deciding factor in this match. 

Asked about his strategy, Cummings said a big part of it was “Not going for the psychological warfare” Canuto employed, which seemed designed to draw Cummings away from his gameplay.
