Judo rules place great emphasis on standing techniques in an effort to promote thunderous throws that result in crushing landings. Judo referees only allow a brief period of time on the ground before the combatants get stood back up, so attacks must be immediate and must be fierce.
The Tbilisi Grand Prix 2018 took place in Georgia last weekend, and there were a number of wins via ground techniques, known as "newaza" in judo terminology.
