Chael Sonnen needed to get physical during his own grappling event on Sunday night.

The Submission Underground promoter and Bellator star appeared to be on the receiving end of a slap as he broke up a scuffle between Jake Shields and AJ Agazarm at SUG 6 in Portland, OR.

While Shields and Agazarm are known to be enemies, the tensions between the two black belt grapplers boiled over after Shields defeated Gilbert "Durinho" Burns in overtime in Sunday's main event. During his post-match interview with Sonnen, Shields was asked whom he’d like to face next in the SUG cage. 

“I’d like to slap AJ around again,” said Shields, referring to their encounter in April 2016 which saw Shields launch an open-hand strike against Agazarm’s forehead. 

At that point, Agazarm jumped into the cage and stood face-to-face with Shields. They went back and forth on the mic for a bit, and true to his word Shields started swinging after Agazarm flinched a jab at him. 

Imploring Shields not to escalate the situation, Sonnen tried his best to get in between the two grapplers but it looked as if he was on the wrong end of one of Shields’ slaps.

As Agazarm left the ring, Shields returned to the mic and launched a fierce verbal tirade his rival's way while Agazarm taunted him about training alongside John Danaher. 

“I’ve already punked you so many times; I’ve slapped you so many times,” Shields said. “You’re a f*cking clown. You’re easy work for me, kid.”
