We're just days away from one of the biggest jiu-jitsu tournaments of the year, with the IBJJF 2017 World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship (aka Masters Worlds) on the horizon.
This will be the SIXTH edition of Masters Worlds. The event was introduced in 2012 to cater to the growing demand of competitors over the age of 30.
There will be 21 mats at Masters Worlds, up from 16 in 2016! Twenty of them will be solely for the veteran athletes, while one will be reserved for the IBJJF Heavyweight Grand Prix, which goes down on August 26 in the same venue.
As we said, this is one of the biggest tournaments of the year. Last year, there were 3,585 total participants, and the IBJJF are expecting almost 4,500 this time around! (Confirmed -- final number 4320)

The biggest black belt division is the black belt Master 2 male middleweight division, which has 53 competitors.
The biggest division of the whole weekend is blue belt Master 1 male middleweight, with 69 entries!
Six of last year's 10 black belt Master 1 champions will return to defend their titles:
