It's the summer, the weather is good, and it's a perfect time to go outside and do some jiu-jitsu!
'Jiu-Jitsu in the Park' is both an open mat and expo for the grappling community, and if you're in SoCal you won't want to miss next event this Sunday June 11 at Malibu Bluffs Park.
A grass-roots organization borne out of the local scene, they've already hosted events in San Diego and Manhattan Beach that were attended by hundreds of people of all affiliations and teams.
The idea is simple -- get together in an outdoor spot, lay down some mats, and enjoy some jiu-jitsu. There are technique workshops, rolling sessions and even a few exhibition matches thrown in for good measure (they even had an açai bowl-eating contest at their San Diego event).
There's a $5 mat fee for people to join in, which includes a raffle ticket for a giveaway.
All of their events have charity partners, and Jiu-Jitsu in the Park will be raising funds for the Natural Resources Defense Council, a non-profit organization that advocates across the globe to "ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities."
"Climate change is real, and we want to do our part to support those who fight for the future of our planet," says Jiu-Jitsu in the Park founder Jee Kim.
