The female purple belt divisions went down on Day 1 of the IBJJF 2017 World Championships, and they proved some of the most entertaining and hard-fought matches of the tournament so far. 

Standing out for her aggression and finish ability was middleweight champion Julia Boscher of Soul Fighters, who submitted all five opponents to win gold. She was unfortunately later disqualified in the absolute division for a no-show due to a mix-up. 


Soul Fighters took three gold medals in total from the female purple belt: Boscher's middleweight gold counted for one, while Jessica Guedry claimed the other two winning the medium-heavyweight and absolute divisions. 

Guedry defeated super heavyweight champion Kendall Reusing of Gracie Barra 9-0 in the absolute final.
