On April 29, Fight to Win Pro will bring yet another exciting sub-only event to Chicago, and the main event is going to blow away the Windy City. Ten-time world champion Caio Terra will be facing off in the gi against former UFC fighter Jeff Curran, who is an Illinois native.
Although F2W Pro has had various students from Terra's academy compete on their stage (two of which are F2W Pro champions), this will be the first time that Caio himself will be featured in an event. "It's been amazing to see the growth of Fight to Win, and I am excited to compete," he said of his upcoming match.
Despite Terra's expertise and hard-earned fame in the BJJ scene, Curran is not to be underestimated. A third-degree black belt under team Pedro Sauer, he's also competed in ADCC and is a two-time Midwest Jiu-Jitsu champion. He also has an extensive professional MMA record, and there's no doubt that the tenacity he shows in the octagon will also be apparent on the Fight to Win stage.
In fact, Terra himself isn't shy about giving Curran the respect he deserves. "A lot of BJJ fans won't know much about him, but if you follow MMA you'll know him for sure," he said. "His career spanned eighteen years, and he is a Shooto, Pride, multiple-time UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, and Bellator veteran. I'm really excited for this match!"
Even though Terra is more known for his success in point-based IBJJF tournaments, he definitely knows how to finish a fight --- he has 47 wins and only four losses by submission in major matches as a black belt. But Curran also has a knack for not leaving his win record up to the judges, as anyone can see from his 21 submission wins in his MMA matches.
These two may have very different competition backgrounds, but that's partially why this match is going to be so entertaining. Fight to Win Pro has brought many current and former MMA fighters to the stage, and seeing one of Curran's caliber going up against an 11-time world champion is sure to make F2W 33 an unforgettable event.
In addition to Terra vs. Curran, fans will also get to see lots of exciting matches from lots of other talented black belts, brown belts, and purple belts. Make sure you watch Fight To Win Pro 33 go down on Friday, April 29 starting at 6:00 pm CST!
