LISBON, Portugal -- Thalison Soares (view profile) was on top form at the IBJJF 2017 European Championships on Tuesday.
His first match against Richard Bukovcsan of Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu was a tightly contest battle that went down to the wire. Though Soares' patented berimbolo back-takes were defended well by Bukovcsan, Soares advanced on points after surviving a last-minute flying triangle attempt.
From that point on, "Little Miyao" marched through the rest of bracket with bow-and-arrow chokes, armbars, and some savage jiu-jitsu technique.
This is Soares' first competition as an adult, as he turns 18 this year and recently moved up from Juvenile 2.
Thalison was named the Prospect of the Year in the 2016 FloGrappling Awards and has started 2017 with plenty of momentum.
