Rafael Lovato Jr. vs. Tanner Rice At Fight To Win Pro 11
Fight to Win's first trip to Oklahoma wouldn't be complete with the presence of its most famous grappler. This time Lovato challenged the next generation of talent in Tanner Rice. Rice's guard work made for an interesting matchup, but ultimately Lovato wore down the younger black belt and finished him with a nasty collar choke from mount.
Rafael Lovato Jr. vs. Cortez Coleman At Legacy 62
Rounding out the year with his first Legacy title defense, Lovato returned home to Oklahoma in the main event of Legacy 62. He took on the much more experienced Cortez Coleman, but Lovato once again used his strengths to control the fight and finish via an impressive armbar in transition. However, what was most surprising was the development of Lovato's striking game. While he kept Coleman at distance, Lovato was even able to sneak a few front kicks past the Crazy Cowboy's guard. Hopefully the win sets up Lovato for a big 2017 in a top-tier promotion such as the UFC or Bellator.
