Danis Interview At RVCA HQ: 'The Objective is to be #1'
Being closely linked to Conor McGregor during both his UFC 202 and UFC 206 fight camps Dillon Danis' influence is growing beyond the BJJ community and now into the MMA sphere. When Helwani asked Danis to give his opinion on a number of jiu-jitsu shows including Metamoris and Submission Underground, he had this to say about the Eddie Bravo invitational.
I like the promotion, I like Eddie Bravo a lot but the ruleset is not my favorite. It hurts the pure essence of jiu-jitsu. Where these guys start on people's back and submit the guy and act like they actually submitted them. I think that's bullshit. I would compete in it and I love Eddie Bravo and think it's a good promotion but the rule set needs to be changed.Dillon has competed in just about every tournament and jiu-jitsu show out there except the California based EBI. The Eddie Bravo Invitational currently is dominated by the 'Danaher Death Squad's' Garry Tonon who is the Lightweight, Welterweight and Light Heavyweight champion, Eddie Cummings who is the Featherweight champion (and lost in overtime this past weekend in the finals of the Bantamweight tournament) and Gordon Ryan who is the Absolute and Middleweight Champion.

The tournaments that make these weird rule sets give guys a false sense of confidence thinking that they are the best when the aren't really the best. There are guys who win these tournaments who are really good, but some guys think that starting on people's back and choking them now they are the best in the world. Everybody knows ADCC, that's where it's at. That's the real stuff. ADCC and IBJJF Worlds. Those are the two biggest, if you're a jiu-jitsu guy you know that's the best. It's looking like it is only a matter of time before Dillon leaves BJJ for a more lucrative career in MMA. It seems he's muling over a potential fight with Cage Fury in February. Danis has been announced to be competing in the Copa Podio Lightweight Grand Prix on the same day.
