Felipe Pena and Xande Ribeiro had never fought until last month, when they tussled at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Tokyo.
They met again today in Rio just three weeks later, and though Xande promised a different result via an improved strategy Pena overcame adversity and managed to win once again.
Ribeiro used a similar strategy as the one he had employed to beat Romulo Barral in the semi-final, using a heavy smash pass from half guard to nullify his opponent's movement from bottom.
Pena stayed patient and found a tiny opening that allowed him to come close to score two points and come close to taking the back.
