Leandro Lo blew through the Copa Podio 2016 Heavyweight Grand Prix last Saturday night in incredible fashion. 

The win capped off an incredible year for Lo: IBJJF World and Pan champion, UAEJJF World Pro champion and a three-time Copa Podio Grand Prix winner across three different weight classes in less than 12 months. If Leandro isn't the black belt of the year, who is? 

Aside from a handful of advantages, none of Lo's opponents managed to score on him. 

Let's take a look at Leandro's performance from the opening round through to the grand finale.

Leandro Lo vs Isaque Bahiense -- Opening Round

Lo's opening match was against Alliance brown belt Isaque Bahiense, a fearless young European and World champion from one of the best teams in the world. 

Lo handled Bahiense's aggression and comfortably cycled through his favorite positions, winning 2-0.

Leandro Lo vs Cassio Francis -- Second Round

We saw an uncharacteristic side of Lo in his match with Gracie Barra black belt Cassio Francis. From guard he sought out his strongest attacking positions and reversed Francis, but when the heavyweight tried to slow him down in the 50-50 Lo jumped on a toehold and cranked it for the tap.

Leandro Lo vs Fellipe Trovo -- Third Round

Brown belt Fellipe Trovo had proved earlier in the evening that he had one of the trickiest and dangerous guards in the tournament -- yet Lo racked up the passes and the points to finish the match with a huge score of 8-0.

Leandro Lo vs Nelton Pontes -- Semifinal

Portuguese black belt Nelton Pontes gave Lo arguably his toughest match of the tournament, forcing Lo to relentlessly attack. Pontes' strength and explosiveness denied Lo the ability to score, and the match finished with Lo ahead by only one advantage.

Leandro Lo vs Alexander Trans -- Final

Alexander Trans comfortably rolled through the brackets to make it to the final, and it took somebody as special as Lo to stop the Danish giant from winning the tournament outright. Lo's two-point sweep secured him the match and his third Copa Podio Grand Prix win this year.
