The first tournament of the UAEJJF 2016-2017 competition season was held today in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
The President's Cup was held at the Ipic Arena in the Gulf state, the same venue that hosts the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
The competition was open to male and female competitors from UAE clubs only, with ranking points and prizes of 2500 AED (approx $680) going to men's division winners and 2000 AED ($545) going to female division winners.

The UAEJJF tournament season ranking system, which culminates in an end-of-year award ceremony that takes place shortly after the World Pro, assigns points to athletes based on tournament success during the competition season.
At the end of the 2016-2017 season the top-ranked athletes will receive cash prizes. The top-ranked athletes of the 2015-2016 season were Erberth Santos (black belt male), Tayane Porfirio (black-brown belt female) and Nicholas Meregali (brown belt male).

Fans of jiu-jitsu will be able to watch the two-day event live on FloGrappling.
The competition, which will feature stars such as Erberth Santos, Joao Miyao, Xande Ribeiro and Mikey Musumeci, will feature both gi and no-gi divisions and will be an important start to the ranking season.
