It was a busy weekend in world of jiu-jitsu and submission grappling. From no time-limit submission-only matches to charity events and Russian superfights, we've got the round-up of the best action. 

Gordon Taps Keenan After An Hour And A Half

The epic no time-limit match between young up-and-comer Gordon Ryan and the still-very-young-but-better-known Keenan Cornelius ended in decisive fashion… after a very long, very grueling 90 minutes. 

Aside from Ryan cementing his position as one of the most exciting (and dangerous) young black belts on the scene, the match opened up a debate over the rules used for the contest. 

Submission-only matches are common, but no time-limit bouts less so. Would the match have gone differently under a different ruleset? If there was a clock running and a sense of urgency in finishing the fight, would a finish have come sooner? 

Whatever people think, Ryan's strategy and execution of his leg lock techniques got him the win and elevated his name among the big boys in jiu-jitsu. The more pressing question should be, what's next for the 20-year-old phenom? 

Danaher Secret Weapon In Shields' Submission Over Machida

Jake Shields did what Jake Shields does in his grappling match with Lyoto Machida at Fight to Win & MusclePharm present Submit Cancer. 

Effective wrestling and suffocating top control… But uncharacteristically, he finished the match with an inside heel hook. 

John Danaher took to social media to congratulate Shields on the win, explaining that Shields had come to him some time ago asking to explore the leg lock game. 

Shields isn't exactly known for his subs, and when he is they're usually chokeholds (he loves that arm-in guillotine). And Shields straight up told us that it was Danaher's input that led to him getting the heel hook.

Three Champs Clean Up in Chicago

The IBJJF Chicago open was dominated by three men with all of them taking home fistfuls of medals in the gi and no-gi competition. 

Lucas 'Hulk' Barbosa of Atos took quadruple gold at black belt, closing out both the gi and no-gi with Josh Hinger. 

GF Team standout Dante Leon, who we saw in action at Royal Grappling not too long ago, cleaned up at brown belt. 

At purple belt, Devhonte Johnson of Unity Jiu-Jitsu took triple gold and a bronze, allowing his teammate Jonas Andrade to pass through in the semi-finals of the gi absolute division.
