On July 5, Alton Sterling was fatally shot by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Graphic and disturbing cell phone footage show the moments leading up to Sterling's death.

The cell phone video has since gone viral, and sparked widespread outrage and protests in Louisiana and across social media.

Four-time world and Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs tweeted his concerns today:

Police are supposed to diffuse situations, not escalate them. Protect the public, and be the voice of reason amid conflict.

Police force needs to reevaluate their selection process and training methods. Too many cops shooting civilians out of fear.

It bothers me that cops stick together even amongst injustice. No one is willing to call out their colleagues for mishandling a situation.

I respect police. I don't think they are bad people. Just bad execution. Either way, consequences should be involved. Justice is necessary.
