In an interview with our partners at FloCombat UFC star Carlos Condit, even with 13 submission wins in his career, has said he'd get "fucking wasted" in a gi jiu-jitsu tournament!
"It adds a different dynamic, different handholds. I can’t get away with what I get away with in no-gi. I’m able to scramble out of a lot of different situations and I’m not able to do that in gi. Guys can grip me and put me in bad situations. But it’s enjoyable, it’s a challenge."
"For a number of reasons I decided to play with the gi. First and foremost it’s a time thing, I can’t make all of the no-gi practices that I’d like because of my schedule. I can get in and get more rolling in with the gi more often, I can just get more practice, and really that’s what helps me stay sharp and develop my skills."
"When I started training, gi was not emphasized much at all, but as I’m come along, why not? It’s an opportunity to learn new skills, to lay down new circuitry throughout my computer, and just push myself and start again as a beginner."
"I’m not able to scramble, these guys have handholds, and they know what they’re doing. I have no idea! I figured I’m come in and grab a couple of things, but there’s a tonne of technique. It’s a whole new world – it’s a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn new things."

"Maybe [I’d compete] no-gi, gi I’d get fucking wasted! I used to do a fair amount of no-gi competitions, Grappler’s Quest and PanAmericans when I was really young, and I always had a blast, a lot of fun. We’ll see!"Watch the full interview here:
