The 2015 New York BJJ Pro went down yesterday in Manhattan, with some of the top black belts from the local area and beyond competing for the chance to win the $4000 first place cash prize.
At IBJJF Pro events, categories are combined and so only three male weight classes went down, with one female division.

In the black belt lightweight division Kim Terra managed to squeeze out a decision win over Gianni Grippo after an energetic contest that ended even on the scoreboard with 8 points apiece. Both corner judges and the main referee gave the match to Kim, who began the contest with an early takedown for 2 points. He successfully defended all of Grippo's infamous berimbolo attacks and both men used creative lapel control attacks from 50-50 to score reversals. Check out the action here.
Otavio Sousa of Gracie Barra waked away winner of the middleweight division after beating GF Team's Victor Silverio in a strategic match, where Sousa used closed guard to slow down and frustrate his explosive opponent. The points were even at 2-2 but advantages were 3-2 in Sousa's favor, giving him the win. Watch the full match here.
In the heavyweight division, Marcos Tinoco of Alliance Marcelo Garcia was crowned the winner in an exciting contest with Rafael 'Formiga' Barbosa, which ended 4-2. Formiga committed a strategic error when dropping back for a footlock and allowing Tinoco to come up on top and claim points for the reversal. Formiga was unable to recover this deficit, with Tinoco cruising to victory. See the final here.
In the sole female final, Sarah Black of GD Jiu-Jitsu outpointed Vanessa Smith of Marcello Monteiro 2-0 in a tough grind of a match, characterized by her relentless attempts to pass guard.
