Francisco ‘Sininstro’ Iturralde won gold at this weekend’s IBJJF Seattle Open with a funky armbar from the back – check out our breakdown of the move. 

There was less than a minute left and the Alliance star managed to get Kim Terra’s back in the finals of the black belt lightweight division. Then came the unexpected and unusual armbar setup. 

1. Attacking for a choke, you can see Sinistro trap his opponent’s nearside arm underneath his armpit. 
   
2. He takes his right hook and places the leg across Terra’s trunk, moving so that they are more in a perpendicular position. 
   
3. He underhooks the nearside leg with his right arm. 
   
4. As Terra comes up, he uses his left arm as a frame on the face and brings his left leg over the head. 
   
5. Extending his legs while maintaining his grip on the leg, the trapped arm gets cranked and Terra has no choice but to tap out.
