Why You Should Watch Main Character: Bad Blood
Why You Should Watch Main Character: Bad Blood
This weekend's Main Character Jiu-Jitsu show is packed with some action-friendly grapplers and some never-before-seen stipulation matches, all in Austin, TX

A wild grappling show with some things we have never seen before will be going down tonight in Austin, TX as Main Character Jiu-Jitsu 6: Bad Blood will be streaming live on FloGrappling. There is a mix of world-class action and stipulations that need to be seen to be believed, headlined by a clash Andy Varela and Wallisson Oliveira, with a featured bout between MCJJ Champions when Mo Black defends her 135lb championship against brown belt absolute No-Gi World Champion Natasha Druggan.
Mo and Natasha are two gritty, tough black belts who show off that toughness every time they compete. Both women have had a ton of success under the MCJJ lights and now they meet in a very consequential match. MCJJ has been one of the best organizations for women's jiu-jitsu, with a consistent focus on showcasing that aspect of the competitive landscape with title fights and tournaments. Watch in this match to see who can establish their hand fighting from neutral, I think that will be a very important factor for either woman to control the match.

In another of the night's biggest matches, no-gi ninja Andy Varela takes on Atos's 2024 IBJJF World Champ Wallisson Oliveira in a bout between serious bruisers at 180lbs. Wallisson, who is now ranked #4 at middleweight by FloGrappling, won his world title with a really impressive leg locking game in what was his breakout performance. Now, he takes on veteran and no-BS grinder Andy Varela in a really important test for both men. Can Wallisson keep that momentum? Can Andy put himself back in the world rankings with a big win? We find out tonight.
Another part of this card is the stipulations that these athletes have agreed to in some of the undercard matches. I am going to focus on one that is unlike anything I've ever seen on a grappling show. Katie Laablalli takes on Katie Bochenek in what has developed into a real grudge match (fitting for a 'Bad Blood' card). Here's the stipulation though: the winner gets to "powerslap" the loser 3 times, meaning full wind up, no protection, hands behind the back. This is definitely a first for FloGrappling and probably jiu-jitsu.
The action will be going for hours on Sunday with a lot of matches featuring kids, teens, and up-and-coming adults. Some names to keep an eye on that fans may not yet know include Ana Mayordomo, Michael Esquivel II, Cam Hurd, Sam Schwartzkapfel, and Corbin Laporte. Ana especially has had impressive success at MCJJ, winning a contendership tournament in 2024 that got her ranked in the top-10 in the world at women's 135lbs. She's someone who could be in line for another shot at the title, depending who wins between Black and Druggan.
If I had to make a comparison for this show, I'd compare it to like an old ECW pro wrestling show. It's got this unusual mix of off the wall ideas, world class athletes, and people wanting to be a 'main character' so badly that they will go the extra mile to play the part. It's the kind of show where you don't know what is going to happen next, who is going to come out, or what's going to be said - but that's all part of the fun. Tune in this Sunday when MCJJ 6 happens exclusively on FloGrappling and get ready to witness a show unlike any other in grappling.
