CJI Announces Dates For CJI 2, Quintet Partnership & Format

The Craig Jones Invitational has announced the dates and some major details for their second annual event, CJI 2, including when and where it will take plus - and a surprise partnership.

All of this was announced on the CJI Instagram, in collaboration with the founder Craig Jones.

Where & When Is CJI 2?

The Craig Jones Invitational 2 will take place August 30th-31st, in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. This means it will be happening alongside the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con & Masters Worlds - so a lot of potential fans will already be in Vegas. The Thomas & Mack was the site for the inaugural CJI and the 2019 ADCC World Championships.

What Are CJI 2 Rules?

In a twist, the CJI has announced they are partnering with Quintet for this teams-based event. Quintet is a long-standing Japanese organization that has put on popular events with stars from jiu-jitsu and MMA. It remains to be seen which teams and grapplers take part, but the largest teams in grappling are figuring out who will be their representatives if they take part.

Quintet rules have two representatives start. If there's a submission winner, they stay and go against a new person. If neither person wins by submission, it is a draw and both are eliminated. This continues until one team wins.

The first major team to announce their squad was 10th Planet, and they plan to have the following representatives:

  • -66kg: Geo Martinez
  • -77kg: Alan Sanchez
  • -88kg: PJ Barch
  • -99kg: Ryan Aitken
  • +99kg: Kyle Boehm

How many teams will be entered? Who will be on those teams? There's a lot to learn as CJI 2 draws closer but now we know when & where the tournament will be going down.
